Counseling Structure

Understanding the Clinical Team & How We Work

The foundation of any clinical program is its people.

At EdYouth Foundation, we are intentional about who we bring onto our team. It's not just about credentials, but character, vision, commitment, and genuine passion and care for the young people we serve.

Our clinical team is built around a supervised training clinic model.  We bring a range of clinicians together, all united by the same mission and guided by the same standards of care.  Our counselors truly work as a team, all under the management of our Clinical Director, all coming together for collaborative growth, and all supporting each other in identifying the best ways to serve each client.

At EdYouth Foundation, every mental health provider is overseen by Dr. Felicia Elise Lewis, PhD, LPC-S, allowing her rich experience and training to be used by all, to best empower each individual and family with the tools to thrive.  Dr. Lewis is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor credentialed by the state of Texas, with a lifelong commitment to teaching and training counselors, all with the vision of best serving  youth today and for many years to come.

We bring different perspectives together in a united mission for purposeful work, thoughtful approaches, and real connection.

"I have a heart for training counselors to work with struggling youth so we can all aid them more dynamically through our work, and hopefully continually pass it along to future generations long to come."

Provider Types

Our clinical team is made up of four tiers of clinicians, each playing a distinct and valuable role in the care we provide. This structure is what makes our training clinic model work; it allows us to offer high-quality, supervised counseling services at a significantly lower cost than a traditional practice, without ever compromising care. While supervisors are at the top tier, we have three levels of counselors working with them.

Licensed Clinicians (LPC/LCSW):

independently licensed clinicians who have completed their graduate education and accumulated the required supervised hours to get there (the two levels below for each discipline). Their full licensure allows us to serve clients utilizing Medicaid and insurance plans not accessible to supervised clinicians

Graduate Interns:

are supervised by Dr. Lewis.  They hold a graduate degree in counseling, have passed their licensing exam, and are provisionally licensed in the state of Texas to practice under supervision. LPC-Associates provide the majority of services funded by outside sources (i.e. Workforce & grants) within our program, can accept a few insurance plans, and bring dedication, fresh perspective, and genuine investment to the work with our clients.

Chemical Dependency Counselors (LCDC):

specialize in addressing addiction and substance use treatments. They hold at least an associates degree and have completed a post-graduation internship to practice independently. LCDCs are overseen by Dr. Lewis as part of our clinical team, and are essential to serving the complex needs of young people with more substantial substance use challenges. Their targeted approach to addiction treatment complements and strengthens our broader counseling services.

LPC-Associates:

are also supervised by Dr. Lewis.  They are graduate-level students at the end of their masters degree program, completing their required practicum or internship hours to work towards licensing. Dr. Lewis is most heavily involved with the treatment of clients being seen by students and may participate in some of the counseling sessions to ensure the best training and service provisions.  Counseling students are able to offer the most affordable rates for low income and non-insured clients who would likely struggle to receive services otherwise.
